The Borough of Kinnelon is a suburban community located in Morris County, NJ. Kinnelon has a total area of 19.5 square miles and has approximately 3,123 housing units. Residents have easy access to Interstate 287 and Route 23 offering a relatively quick commute to Manhattan and employment centers in Northern New Jersey. Fayson Lakes is a private community that was formed in the 1930s. The Fayson Lakes Association has over 500 family members. In 2016, mandatory annual dues were approximately $535 with a one time initiation fee of $750. The community has several lakes and beaches as well as a clubhouse for its members. Fayson Lakes homes are situated on compact property lots and range from small cottages to wonderful lakefronts. Smoke Rise is a private gated community with homes on larger wooded lots. The community is administered by the Smoke Rise Club, which was formed in 1946, and must approve all residents and their building plans. In 2016, mandatory annual dues were approximately $2,980 with a one time initiation fee of $6,250. Inside the community there are over 50 miles of roadway and the grounds are largely forested. Smoke Rise has approximately 900 homes on 3,500 acres. Many residents commute to New York City. Lake Kinnelon is located inside Smoke Rise. Other housing developments and neighborhoods in Kinnelon include: Lake Reality, Stonybrook Highlands, Tall Oaks, Mountain Ridge, Ridge Run, Kendall Woods, Mountain Ridge, Estates of Kinnelon, Round Hill Manor, Cedar Ridge Estates, Raine Tree, Grandview, Kinnelon Estates, Powderhorn Estates, and Saw Mill Estates.
Kinnelon is easily accessible to NJ Route 23 and Interstate 287. New Jersey Transit provides bus service from Kinnelon to NY Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan NYC. During rush hour, the bus ride takes about 70 minutes. The train station in Lincoln Park is located to the east.
The Kinnelon Public Schools System is composed of approximately 2,200 students in grades K-12. Kiel School serves grades PreK-2. Stonybrook School is an upper elementary school that serves students in grades 3-5; Pearl R. Miller Middle School serves students in grades 6-8; and Kinnelon High School is a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12.
Pyramid Mountain Park offers a great combination of hiking trails, camp sites, and beautiful views. Well known and visited by the locals, this park offers three hiking trails: The Bear Loop, Taylortown Reservoir Loop, and The 100 Step Loop. Silas Condict Park features a pristine lake inside a 265 acre park. In the summer, the lake is used for paddle boats and row boats. The picnic shelter and family picnic sites often reach capacity as visitors hold barbecues. During the winter months, ice skating on the lake is popular with the local area residents.
National chain stores and restaurants are easily accessible along NJ Route 23. The Kinnelon Mall offers shopping and movie theaters.
